Does a sound knowledge (and I
don’t mean just a theoretical aspect) of psychology insure an equally effective
usage in practical contexts? : An effective usage in practical situations
should become a source of great power, for we would then be able to understand,
and thus control, even if slightly, (by responding suitably) the behaviour of
others by recognizing their psychological stimuli and reacting in a way that
will serve our purpose.
But the question is: D0es
that happen?
From whatever little knowledge
of human psychology that I have, I expected it to bestow on me, a share of
power in an equal ratio. But, as it turns out to be, the case is so not it! I
could trace three reasons behind it :
1.
I am unable to
rise above *my* psychological issues and more often than not, think about the
impact a certain situation is going to have on me, rather than concentrating on
h0w to best apply my theories to recognize and interpret behaviour patterns of
others.. leave alone all the talk on how
influence it :P
2.
Words become my
undoing. I speak so much that I forget to register the nuances (which by the
way are crucial if are to develop the ‘intuition’).
3.
This entire
*i-know-psychology-so-i-m-gonna-get-you-to-do-what-i-want* d0esn’t really work
on parents! Maybe God has installed some inbuilt
*i-have-a-better-knowledge-of-psychology-than-my-kids* chip in them. :| It
never seems to work with them !!!
I
have no intention whatsoever, of negating the importance of p0wer of
psychology, for if nothing else, it does help us in understanding better,
ourselves. And that’s no mean thing! For this I shall always be thankful to
psychology, more appropriately, its literary wing.
But I really feel someone should write a book
on “How
to Use Your Knowledge of Psychology to Beat Y0ur Parents’ Inbuilt Chip”
It
will become an instant bestseller. !
